Kids College is an opportunity for teens 13 years and above (at least upcoming freshmen) to have fun and volunteer during the summer, as well as develop leadership skills and work with kids! Kids College is broken up into 5 one-week and two-week sessions and teens can choose to volunteer for one session or as many as they would like! As volunteers teens will be helping teachers in the classrooms and be with the kids throughout the day during lunch and breaks. We want to make sure that the campers are having fun, being safe and being engaged! Campers sign up for classes based on a subject that will interest them and we match volunteers based on availability and interest. When volunteering with Kids College for the whole summer volunteers can earn over 370 service hours! Don’t miss this opportunity to have fun, work with kids and find strengths and talents!

The 50 four 50 program is where 50 local individuals and businesses support 50 teens through the Chain Reaction Academy. The CR Academy consists of 50 students chosen to develop their physical, mental, and spiritual goals that inspires, educates and serves as a living teen example in their community and Chain Reaction. Here are two teens that strive for more out of their high school years through Chain Reaction and their success stories.

Sarah

Sarah first became a CR member during her freshman year in high school, but didn’t fully engage as a member until the beginning of her senior year. After attending the second annual teen convention in the summer leading up to last year of high school, Sarah approached CR with a desire to contribute more to both the organization and community as a whole. Only months after becoming actively involved, Sarah headed up her first Chain Reaction teen project by organizing the CR Freeze. During the downtown Pensacola gallery night, CR teens gathered together to make an impact through an act of performance art. Sarah was able to implement her leadership skills through this opportunity, and has continued to actively be involved with Chain Reaction leadership on a weekly basis.

Mokell

Mokell has been a CR member for less than a year, and has already given 844 hours of service to the Pensacola community. As a sophomore, Mokell joined CR with hopes of finding new opportunities to serve, but has since been able to become an active leader within CR. Mokell has been able to polish his public speaking skills and has been an encouragement to many other teens in becoming more actively involved. Through his consistent presence at an after school program, he has been able to develop positive mentoring friendships with many of the children. Mokell is an incredible role model within the community and looks forward to another two years of volunteering through high school.

When Passion and Need Meet

I never knew that my passion for soccer would take me to a new world. A world less fortunate than the one I knew. It is almost impossible for me to describe what I saw in Peru, not only the living conditions, but also the way of life. It amazed me how many people were living in these miserable conditions, yet everyone wore the brightest smiles, as if they were living in the top room of a New York apt.

The absolute biggest inspiration for me was the children. These kids had grown up with next to nothing, yet they were the happiest kids I had ever seen. My love for soccer was shared with theirs, and I was able to communicate with them through the game. I soon realized just how much I took for granted, like running water, and how grateful I should be for the things I have in my life.

My Project… Running Water

When I was in Peru last year, my church and I built a community playground for the hundreds of kids who live there. When I first left for the trip I was thinking I was going to give so much to these kids. But in building this playground, I realized they had taught and given me so much more. I feel like it is my job now to give back to them in any way I can. So I designed this project called Running Water.

I bought 175 bracelets from a Peruvian local, and I am selling them for 1 dollar. My goal is to raise 500 dollars, because it only costs $500 to construct a house with concrete and a water resistant roof.

How Can You Help?

You may think this is just a fundraiser, but its so much more than that. Not only will funds be raised, but I also hope to raise awareness of those less fortunate than us, and to remind us with the bracelets of how lucky we are and how not to take things for granted such as running water.

There will be bags with five bracelets in them, and the basic concept is to buy one of the five bracelets and then give the bag to someone else who buys one and gives it to someone else.

1.) Buy a bag for 1 dollar

2.) Pick the bracelet you want and sign your name to the card in the bag

3.) Put your dollar in the bag and give it to someone else, who does the same

4.) The fifth person takes the last bracelet out of the bag, puts their dollar in and sends the card of names with the money in the pre-printed envelope to the Chain Reaction office.

Also if you wanted to donate more than one dollar feel free to do so. You can either click the donate button at the bottom, or you can pay more than one dollar for a bracelet.
