Hi, my name is Hiba and I am currently a junior at Pensacola High School. My job is to get the message of service out to the community by writing blog posts. I hope to encourage teens to join projects at Chain Reaction and impact their community.

Chain Reaction is a Teen Leadership Institute where teens are given the opportunity to give back to the community while taking on leadership roles. Here at CR our mission is to give teens the opportunity to learn through service. There are a wide variety of projects for teens to be involved in after school. Teens participate in service projects from start to finish with the help of staff: from planning, to developing, to the final execution.

The first service project I am going to talk about is Human Jukebox. I want to get teens that are passionate about music to help out with Human Jukebox because it is a fun way to get involved in the community with music! Human Jukebox is a service project where teens get together and practice for twelve weeks, and then perform songs at Pensacola Gallery Night. They choose five to seven songs to rehearse. Then create promotional materials for the event. During Gallery Night the teens place jars in front of their performance area. Each jar corresponds to a different song. As soon as someone places money into a jar, the teens immediately transition to that song. Therefore, they are the Human Jukebox! Human Jukebox raises money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida to pay for one child to receive music lessons. Music helps kids learn and is great for releasing stress. Carinne, an intern for Human Jukebox, said, “I really love music, so having the opportunity to play music while making a difference in the life of an underprivileged child is a dream come true”.

Human Jukebox is a great project for teens that love music. It helps them to get involved with the community while doing what they love. It not only provides entertainment to the community, but it will offer a great learning outcome for a child. You should get your teen involved at Chain Reaction to participate in service learning projects like human jukebox. Teens have the power to make an impact beyond themselves.
